Overview

River Action is a dedicated charity focused on protecting and revitalising our river ecosystems to ensure a healthier environment for future generations. Our mission is to combat the ecological threats facing rivers, promote biodiversity, and enhance the quality of life for those who depend on these vital waterways.

In the largest citizen science water testing project ever conducted in the UK, it was found that 83% of English rivers show evidence of high pollution from sewage and agriculture. These pollutants severely impact aquatic life. For example, phosphates lead to excessive algae growth, reducing oxygen levels in river water and suffocating the creatures within.

River Action’s five-year strategy is designed to address these critical issues through three main goals:

1. Empower and Fund Community-Level Action

  • Support catchment activism and citizen science initiatives.
  • Monitor evidence of pollution and work towards river restoration.

2. Mobilise Public Opinion

  • Raise awareness about river pollution and promote natural solutions.
  • Pressure the Government to enforce policy changes and regulate industrial practices.

3. Advocate for Government Action

  • Campaign for proper Government funding, policies, and enforcement to protect and restore rivers locally and nationally.

When necessary, we deploy legal action to ensure the Government regulates polluting industries and enforces environmental laws.

We are proud to support River Action in protecting our rivers and safeguarding the environment for a brighter, cleaner future. Join us in our mission to create a healthier, more sustainable world for all.
