Overview
Since 2001, the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) has existed to ‘protect the natural world and defend our basic human right to a secure environment’. It is a registered charity headquartered in London. EJF’s campaigns focus on the ocean, climate, wetlands and forests, sustainable fashion, and environmental defenders, and is known for its investigations, campaigns and local activism.
EJF’s ocean programme focuses on securing legal, sustainable, and equitable fisheries, creating plastic-free seas, protecting the deep sea, and creating marine protected areas. By producing robust evidence and engaging directly with policymakers, enforcement bodies and international institutions, EJF seeks to close implementation gaps between environmental commitments and real-world outcomes.
This grant is helping conserve European marine ecosystems through the power of law to leverage EU ambition and urgent action to implement, enforce and protect the EU’s marine protection standards. The grant supports actions to enhance the effectiveness of marine protected areas and regulations to drive transparency and sustainability in the fisheries sector.
